My dental career
has extended from dental assistant to dental office manager to dental
hygienist. The latter of which I have been for 28 years.
I was most fortunate after graduating from Westbrook College in 1990, to work for Dr. Caverly in Bath, Maine. I credit him for indoctrinating in me that a high standard of care can be delivered at an affordable fee.
I have established myself as an Independent Dental Hygienist, working in dental offices from as far south as Wells, as far north as Auburn and down the coast from Portland to Rockport. I have experienced and learned a lot over the years. Most bothersome was the increase in dental fees and decrease in accessibility to it. I've also learned how little patients know about oral health care and preventable oral health issues.
My Dental Hygiene Practice is about changing the status quo. Which is why when the Independent Practice Dental Hygenist bill was presented to the legislator in 2007, I jumped on board and became an avid participant. In April 2008, after a lot of work, the bill passed and I became IPDH #14 in March 2009.
I have traveled extensively, and lived abroad for 7 years in Bahrain and Bergen, Norway. While in Bahrain, I volunteered as a dental assistant. I dabble in black and white photography. I also enjoy being a "foodie." I’m an outdoors woman. I have a passion for organic gardening and renovating older period homes. Oh and then there’s my Harley—a 1200 Nightster.
